Foraging by Day
Edwin Flores | 34,50 euro | 150 min | Dutch spokenVoorstelling: Friday 9 May 12:00 | Mister Kitchen / Westerpark
Being the hunter-gather is hip. But how do you do it? What exactly can
you eat and where should you walk with your bow-and-arrow? The most
famous hunter-gather in the Netherlands, Edwin Flores is going to help
you.
Foraging in the wild is in our DNA. In our hearts, we are all hunter-gatherers. In the supermarket, we are smelling, feeling and squeezing fruit and vegetables in a quest to scrape a meal together. Unfortunately, most of us have lost contact with edible nature. We don't know which plants are poisonous, and which are not; or even where we can find them. But all of this is about to change.
For all of his life, Edwin has been interested in the delights that nature has freely to offer. About eight years ago, he started as a professional forger. He wrote several books about where plants, spices, berries, nuts and mushrooms could be found within their natural environment, how these environment should be interpreted, and what 'rules' a forger should adhere to. Furthermore, how to then turn freshly picked ingredients, into tasty dishes. Because of course, Edwin self-caters.
During a walk through nearby Westerpark, Edwin will share his tips and tricks for foraging in the wild. Then, you'll return to the kitchen at Mister Kitchen in which you'll prepare two small dishes with what you've found: a salsa verde and tempura.
