First film released!

At Food Film Festival headquarters, we are working really hard on our program. Meanwhile, we would like to present our first documentary. Johannes' Kitchen (Dutch titel: De keuken van Johannes) is a portrait of a very beloved restaurant critic who passed away last year.

Johannes van Dam was restaurant critic with Dutch newspaper Het Parool. In his section 'Proefwerk' he wrote about every restaurant in Amsterdam: he could make or break a restaurant.

Just before he died in September 2013, filmmaker Bianca Tan followed the famous foodwriter. She followed him doing his grocery shopping, accompanied him during his daily cafĂ© visit and his public appearances. She also follows him closely in his tiny Amsterdam apartment,  filled with thousands of cookbooks.

In Johannes' Kitchen we become part of how Van Dam would work, accompanied by his assistant and his beloved cat. This is an unique insight, because the food writer never shared much of his private life.

At last years Food Film Festival, Johannes van Dam made an appearance during our live talk show, in which he live reviewed our restaurant. He rewarded our chef Joris Bijdendijk with a 9! In case you missed it, check out the video below:
