Now, Forager + SHORT
Speelfilm | Jason Cortlund & Julia Halperin | United States, Poland | 2012 | 93 min | English spoken | No subtitlesVoorstelling: Sunday 24 March 19:30 | Studio/K 1
Husband and wife Lucien and Regina pick wild mushrooms and sell them to New York restaurants. They live simply, according to the seasons. When Regina seeks more stability and accepts a steady job, the marriage begins to unravel. A feature film about living with nature in modern society.
Lucien is a mushroom freak. He has to be, because the difference between a morello and a green knolamaniet is the difference between a delicious meal and death. Regina enjoys their life, but is also a realist. In season they sell well, but the restaurants don't pay enough. They simply don't appreciate the unique specimens that the couple brings them: mushrooms could just as well be bought from a wholesaler, right?
When Regina is offered a job as a chef in a good restaurant, she makes the responsible decision. But to Lucien her decision feels like betrayal. He does not want his life to be determined by their financial situation. The conflict that arises teaches them both a valuable lesson.
Now, Forager is about 'adult love' and a changing relationship. It is also about the budding slow food movement, the love of food and cooking, and above all the lure of mushrooms. Shot with the beauty of a BBC documentary.

Cook Book Fiction | Martin Briggs-Watson & Andrew William Robb | United Kingdom | 2012 | 7 min | no dialogue | NL premiere The way to a man's heart may be through his stomach, but women too expect a delicious homemade meal. Brown beans in tomato sauce just doesn't cut it! An almost slapstick film about the influence of a cook book. |
